Pros and Cons of Technology in the Classroom

Technology in the classroom is not just for students. Teachers can use the technology to keep student records, plan lessons and communicate with parents. Computers and the internet have made it easier for students to access academic material at any given time of the day.  Technology use inside the classrooms gives the students opportunities to learn through exploring on the internet, students become more actively in engaged in their assignments by surfing and researching information on the computers (example: Social Studies, students will be more engage in watching virtual field trips and streaming videos), and having more computers inside the schools would help improve the level of instruction and address many of the problems in the schools.
There are times when it is not easy to find the right information on the internet.  When this happens, it causes the students to go beyond their parameters in their research, and they will become easily distracted by other activities on the internet rather than focusing on the subject at hand.  Technology is expensive; schools with minimal resources will end up spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in a school year.  Classroom technology, especially laptops for individual students use should be replaced every two to three years and this will cause hardship on low budget school.
